Collards were some of the best I've ever had, BBQ was good but I have had better. I watched the owner while I stood in line waiting running from kitchen to dining area bringing butter, utensils and food non stop. I waited at my table for 25 minutes before ever receiving my food, the family that ordered ahead Of me was just receiving there food as I was leaving approx 45 minutes after ordering. I finally placed my order for my pulled pork sandwich and collard greens and proceeded to go sit outside as directed by the owner due to my food would be brought to me. The waitress from bar did not appear to be doing anything but walking around while others ran circles around her. Another waitress came over from the bar area behind counter where the lady was taking orders and the lady taking orders asked the waitress to get her more cups which the waitress replied I'm too busy you can get them. I was 4th person in line and I stood there for over 15 minutes just to place order where it was very obvious that they were short staffed with one lady taking orders, fixing drinks and another guy which appeared to be the owner in kitchen running around trying to fix plates of food then come out of kitchen to deliver to customers seated. We ended up leaving Sooey's without eating, pretty sure she would have spit in our food if we stayed.When you walk up there is no direction to tell you to order inside and then find a table. We encountered many short staffed restaurants while in OBX and most were kind and apologetic, and we were kind and understanding in return. The very least they can do is treat people who come into your establishment with respect. I understand staffs are short but the are easy ways to communicate things to your customers, like voice messages or an updated website with hours. Attitude doesn't even begin to describe the way this woman spoke to me. I tried to explain that the online ordering feature was also not working and she snapped at me again. She then says if someone wanted to eat here so badly they could come in or order online. The woman very rudely tells me that's because she took it off the hook because it was ringing too much. Figuring they are closed again, we all get ready to go out to dinner but drive by on the way and see they are actually open! When we go in I mention that they might be having an issue with their phone since it was busy. So I go to online order and now it says next available time to online order is the next day. I get the orders from our large party of 16, we had some questions about options for the kids, so tried calling in to place the order around 5:30). We tried again on Saturday (checked earlier in the afternoon, seemed like they were taking orders online). Drove there and there was a sign saying they were closed and would be open on Wed. Called, no voice message explaining their hours or that they were closed.) It wouldn't let me online order. on a Tuesday (both their website and Google said they should have been open). The bad experience started towards the beginning of the trip when we tried to order. I wish I could tell you how the food was but we never got that far because the woman behind the counter had the worst customer service I've ever witnessed. At this time of year, only about half the restaurants in Corolla are open each day and very few are open at lunch. The only positive was they were open for lunch. Either way, the bad experienced means it's unlikely we'll be back. This place has been around for a long time, so I doubt this is the norm for them given their decent rating. Maybe the time of year has something to do with the skill and experience of the staff and this was just a negative one-off. It was very good and that time was during peak season. I have only had food from there once many years ago and it was BBQ.

The skin was shrunk and stuck to the meat. It's like it had been made hours earlier and just reheated. We were all disappointed in our meals accept for the fish sandwich. We took it to go as our rental house is 300 yards from the restaurant.

Fish sandwich, BBQ pulled-pork sandwich, 2-pc chicken meal and a hamburger.
